If you have looked at my blog at all you know I LOVE traveling. That’s what I’m all about the next adventure. If you have seen my weekend round ups you might have gathered we don’t put a lot of planning in its more of we have an idea of where we would like to end up and just go. I drive a 4 door jeep so we pack the back end with the essentials and we take off. So I wanted to share my favorite gear with all of you! Most is the first set of gear I have personally owned and I love all of it!
Backpack: When choosing a backpack the size was a big concern I hate having to check a bag so it had to be small enough to be a carry on while having enough room to carry everything. This backpack was perfect it contains so many pockets (5L worth) while the inside of the pack holds 45L. There are also plenty of straps for your tent at the bottom and straps on both sides. I am also a small person so the fact that it fits comfortably without towering over me is the best!
Tent: I purchased this tent before I meet my husband but it’s like I ordered it just for us. We both fit in perfectly. This is a two person tent and is meant for 3 seasons. It would get a bit chilly during heavy winter months but for our warm locations, it is perfect! This is our go to tent and it comes on all of our adventures. Under the rain fly the tent is mostly mesh so perfect for warm summer nights but add the rain fly and it keeps you nice and toasty for chillier fall evenings.
Camp stove: So while camping we can’t always make a fire and we don’t always have the time for bringing out all the works. This camp stove is perfect for a quick meal being the same size as a Nalgene bottle it takes up no room at all! the propane and burner nestle right inside but when removed both the top and bottom can be used as pots to cook with!
Sleeping bag: I have always used down sleeping bags and love them! They are so comfortable to use in any weather during the summer they help keep you cool but also keep you super warm during winter months. Down sleeping bags can compress to really small bags so it takes up less room in your car or on your pack. It is also super light weight which to any backpacker is music to their ears. Down sleeping bags cost more up front but last far longer than synthetic bags. Down sleeping bags should last about 10 years with proper care. These suckers also don’t lose their fluffyness (that’s a word right? I guess it is now!) when being repeatedly stuffed.
Sleeping bag liner: One of my favorite items for summer camping is my sleeping bag liner. When it’s too hot to have a full sleeping bag it can be used alone and it acts like a sheet. Then when it does get cooler out use it along with your sleeping bag to get even warmer! Win win right? This item also takes up little to no room it is about the size of a small flashlight.
Camp pillow: Some might find this unnecessary but I like small comforts. Who likes waking up with a sore neck and back?? Anyone, nope, ya same here so for the small price of 10 ounces you can wake up restful. This one rolls up into a little pouch and I’ve had mine for about 8 years now it has traveled to Costa Rica with me and the Grand Canyon. My husband always steals it to bring with him to the field now and that’s saying something!
Sleeping mat: I found this sleeping mat and I will never go to another one. It is so easy to set up and put away and provides s much cushion! When you take it out of the pouch you unfold it blow it up a bit and there you go! Putting it away is just as easy you unscrew the top and roll it up. This mat is really lightweight and small making it perfect to fit in any backpack.
Hammock: Who doesn’t love a hammock to relax in? I know one of my favorite past time while camping is laying in my hammock reading my book. Also, it can replace having a tent. A big thing to do is use a hammock to camp in instead of a tent! I would try this if I didn’t have a pup that likes cuddling with me and also now a husband by my side but I do love the idea of hammock camping.
Those are all of the equipment I swear by whether I’m backpacking or car camping! This is just the basics that I always take with me whats your favorite piece of camping equipment?
